The 7 @ Group began in March 2006, when a group of seven art students got together for a second-year JMU University "gallery practice" project. The exhibition produced for this project ("7 @ 68") was the first exhibition for The 7@Group.

After this initial project 7@ decided to stay together as an exhibiting band of artists. Following this the group submitted a proposal to the Unity theatre culminating in a month long exhibition (7@ Unity) during February and March 2007 .

The 7@ group hold regular meetings to discuss their current working practices and future exhibition proposals. Pending exhibitions include 7@ the Anglican (Cathedral) during March/April 2008 and 7@ the Everyman from September until the end of December 2008. The latter exhibition will be affiliated to the Independent section of Liverpool Biennial '08.
Two of the original members have left the group due to work/relocation. The decision  was made to invite four new artists (also JMU graduates of 2007) to join and although the membership is actually nine, the name 7@ remains!
